We arrived too early, as Den was closer to our hotel than we anticipated, when after a short walk we spotted it on the other side of the street. Entering the restaurant before our reservation time felt impolite somehow, so we decided to make a quick stroll round the block. Although it was a very warm summer evening it started to drizzle a bit. Within seconds staff came rushing out with umbrella's and ushered us in, all smiles.

The meal was just as welcoming. Fun, delicious, personal and technically perfect. As an overall experience dining at Den feels like having a meal with a group of friends, albeit friends who cook on world class level. Highlights were the foie gras monaka, the signature salad, the Den Fried Chicken, an unreal fish dish I can't remember the name of, and the double portion of rice at the end. Every dish came with carefully selected drinks (sake, wine, beer and spirits) that were unexpectedly affordable. Den is a treasure. And seeing it was just named best restaurant in Asia by 50Best this is a sentiment shared by many.
