Café Beurre opened early March ’22 in our hood and with one visit we knew this would become a favourite. Sitting on a corner of Van Limburg Stirumstraat and Van Beuningenstraat, it occupies a space that has been the home of various bars and restaurants that were never really successful, due to both covid and/or lack of quality. Beurre, however, seems to have struck gold.

The striking blue exterior, the cosy, bohemian interior, the creative (natural) wine list, the charming servers, the jovial, yet slightly chaotic ambiance and the excellent vegetarian food – it all combines to what feels like a joint that has been there forever.
The menu (apéro, cocktails, snacks, small dishes meant to be shared, desserts) will change regularly, but we sincerely hope they will keep serving the leek terrine with mayonnaise and fermented egg yolk. Rich, comforting, packed with umami – an absolutely brilliant dish. Another highlight were the gigantic green Italian olives marinated in sherry – slightly tart, refreshing, and surprisingly meaty, they make for a perfect nibble to go with some fizz or a pastis. As mentioned, the wine list is excellent, consisting of sparkling, orange, white and red wines, exclusively from Europe, many of which can be ordered by the glass. Bliss.
